Dark Reading's 10 reasons why security products don't work
Dark Reading has a great article up on the top 10 reasons security products don't work. I usually don't go in for top 10 lists, unless I am watching the Lettermen show. However, this one deserves a mention and your reading. What I liked about it, they go into some deep detail on each of these reasons with real world examples by some people who actually live this. The reasons for why the products don't work are presented from both the end user and the vendor prospective. Not to rehash what they wrote, I instead paste it here for your reading. If you are interested in security either from a customer/end user or vendor prospective, take the time and read it.
The List:
- 1. Too many false alarms
- 2. Products are riddled with holes
- 3. No protection against zero-day attacks
- 4. Products don't work well together
- 5. Security tools are too complex
- 6. Users don't understand the product's capabilities
- 7. Users fail to install/deploy the product correctly
- 8. Users do too much product "tuning"
- 9. Users fail to update the product
- 10. The Blame Game
