Big Telcos still blocking my right to free conference calls

About two weeks ago I wrote about how Cingular/ATT, Sprint and Qwest were blocking calls into freeconferencecall.com conference numbers.  Some people left comments that it was plainly illegal and wrong.  I just wanted to update you with some information I received from the Freeconferencecall people today.  They are still being blocked, though they have set up alternative numbers which are not blocked yet.  They have set up a blog on this at http://blog.freeconferencecall.com

Here is some interesting information I read there:

1. When freeconferencing call customers called Cingular customer service they were told that these numbers were blocked for fraud, international forwarding, fee disputes and that freeconferencing was blocking their own calls.

2. Finally, ATT/Cingular has gone on record saying that according to their terms of service they have the right to block any number they wish.  The ATT person further said that their wireless service is "between one person and another person, not between one person and many"  Yeah right, unless you are paying their exorbitant fees for conferencing.

3.Other audio conferencing services are also being blocked by these companies. I guess they are putting the screws on to use their own services.

Anyway, this situation just seems like it is plain wrong. I am not a big fan of  government regulation, but this is a case where they need to step in and do something.  Visit the freeconferencing blog and lend your support!
