HP plays catch up to IBM making their own application security buy

Just found out via Michael Farnum's blog that HP is buying SPI Dynamics. According to this article in techtarget, HP's storage and security server department is interested in making security improvements as it pushes further into small and midsize businesses.  Though financial terms were not disclosed, I would bet this is not a bottom feeder type of deal.  Like my grandmother always said, every pot has a cover and it looks like the SPI team has found its cover. Congrats to the SPI team!

I also think this is a direct reaction to IBM buying Watchfire.  HP wants to go head to head with Big Blue and so in the new arms race, they need their own application security play.
